Child Photographer...

Saturday, July 31, 2010

Just for something a little different and not quite what I'm used to scrapping... male dominated colours with a slight grunge feel! Scrapville's August Standard Kit is packed full of Bo Bunny Mama-Razzi papers and a perfect selection of co-ordinated embellishments to create a very earthy yet elegant collection of products.
All the photos used in my layout were taken by my four year old son... during a day out at a beach festival with family and friends, I gave him my camera and left him to his own devices. My goodness, some 250+ photos later and a few shots of people we didn't even know... we had a fabulous collection of fun pics from our 'child photographer'!
This is my son's self portrait! The little camera charm is totally adorable and is included in the Kit.
The Kit also included grungy cardboard which was perfect for cutting into strips for journaling tabs.

Can You Keep A Secret?

Sorry, I don't have any secrets to share - it just happened to be the title of my layout! Very fitting as my little man is having a wonderful time 'sharing secrets' with us... he comes up with the most amazing little tid-bits to secretly whisper into our ears. The other day he came up to me and said "Mum, I've got a wheely gweat secret... then he whispered shhhhh... crocodiles bite your head clean off!" What the...? LOL!
Okay, remember my New Years resolution that I keep going back to... Try All Things New! Bunting and lace have hit the page! Bunting has been extremely popular for the past six months or so, and I've still yet to use it on my layouts... until now!
I very rarely ever grace my pages with lace but it was in my DT kit for Scrapville's August 'Fancy Pants' Pack and was begging to be used... how cute is that lace butterfly? I mounted it onto stiff clear acetate so that it would hold its shape.
This is such a delightfully pretty pack and one that I never thought I'd use for a 'little boy', however, sometimes you've just got to step outside the box and see what you can come up with! The Fancy Pants pack will be available in-store at Scrapville from August 1 onwards, or you can arrange for a subscription by sending an email to www.scrapville@iinet.net.au

Hey Birdie...

Thursday, July 22, 2010

Have you ever worked on a layout and been a little sad when you had finished it? Not because you didn't like working on it... quite the opposite actually. I made this layout the other night and happily snipped away at all the little critters, trees, flowers, butterflies etc... it took all night but was such a relaxing and enjoyable process that when I'd finished I stopped and realised that I was disappointed it was all over!

The photo was the very first ever 'family portrait' that we had taken and is now quite out-of-date as my daughter is 10 years old, not to mention that we also have a son... however, it still remains special!

I've put this layout together using Kaisercraft 'Hey Birdie' as a sample for one of Scrapville's Kits which will be one of two "Special Editions" for the month of August only! Hey Birdie is such a fun and whimsical line of product with a gorgeous colour scheme of pinks, browns and greens, not to mention the most adorable little birds and funky trees!

I think I've finally concluded that this layout best represents the style of scrapping that I would call my own...All the fussy cutting and creating of little story-book style pages is definitely what I love to do best! For now anyway... LOL!
I am slowly wading my way through the pile of projects I have at the moment so will have lots to share in the following weeks.

Let it snow...

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

Firstly, thankyou to everyone for your wonderful comments regarding the snow-globe and for those of you who wanted to know how I made it... Imaginisce have the snow globe featured on their blog today with a full list of product, instructions and more pics, not to mention another give-away so be sure to visit their blog HERE.
I have been dying to use some of the new snowflake crystals in the Cottage Cristmas collection... they are just the cutest things ever and wait until you see how many come in the pack! Here is a card I made using one of the middle size snowflakes which I attached using thread so that it turns around in the peak-a-boo hole. I also used a white paint pen to define the outline of the crystal.
I can't believe I've already started making Christmas cards... well atleast I'm going to be well organized when the mad rush does finally arrive, I'm sure it will be here before we know it!
Don't forget to pop over to Imaginisce for your chance to win this wonderful Cottage Christmas collection... it is a 'must have' for the impending season.

Christmas In July...

Saturday, July 17, 2010

Such a nice change to work with a Christmas collection when the weather is cold and there is snow on the mountains... something we never get to do here at Christmas time. We're usually in the swimming pool, wearing shorts and thongs and cooling down with ice-cold drinks.
Imaginisce are about to release their third new collection... Cottage Christmas and just wait until you see all the gorgeous papers, snow flakes and crystals, not to mention little gnomes and reindeer awwww!
I cracked open my pack last night and set to task creating a snow-globe for my daughter to add to her ever increasing collection.
Lots of time-consuming fussy cutting with the smallest scissors I could find, but my daughter loves her new snowg-globe so the sore fingers and midnight blindness were worth it!
Make sure you keep an eye out on the Imaginisce blog this coming week as they are having yet another release party to celebrate this gorgeous Christmas line and their will be heaps of give-aways and lots of inspirational projects from the Imaginisce DT team!

A whole lot of fluff...

Thursday, July 15, 2010

I have finally scrapped the farm cat!
My daughter has been wanting me to 'do something' with these photos of her beloved 'Panda' for the past six months and I've finally kept my promise.
I have used Luxe Designs 'Trinket' paper range, my trusty new paper crimper, my fave Martha Stewart Monarch Butterfly punch, and the cute new Cupid Thickers from American Crafts with tiny little white hearts, lots of paper piercing and I've also used my Fiskars heart punch.
I have based the layout on my sketch design for the July Sketch Challenge at Scrapville so if you would like to enter, hop on over to the Scrapville blog and check out all the details.
Still having fun with my new paper crimper!
I didn't use hand-written journaling this time... had too much to say and not a big enough space to write it... so I printed my jouranling onto some white cardstock mounted onto two other large circles of the Luxe Designs 'Trinket' paper range.
My daughter is happy now, she can't wait to get a frame organized and then put her page beside her bed.

Imaginisce - Another New Release Party...

Wednesday, July 14, 2010

I have just returned back from a wonderful week away in Sunny Queensland with the farmer and the farm kids and now I'm ready to jump straight into playing with the latest release from Imaginisce "Apple Cider"! Imaginisce are having another Release Party to celebrate this gorgeous line of products so head over to their blog for all the details and a scoop on some of the latest creations using Apple Cider.
Isn't it the cutest? Gotta love the little critters and the apples, pumpkins and gorgeous trees! The colourscheme on this latest collection by Imaginisce is all about Autumn with hues of oranges, reds, browns and greens and goes with just about anything you could possibly want to scrap.
Here's a little card I made this evening using lots of little leaves cut from one of the double sided patterned papers to create a wreath and I've used the new i-rock heat tool to attach the bling around the wreath.
If you would like to get your hands on some of this uber cute collection, head over to the Imaginisce blog to see how you could win some of the Apple Cider range.
Don't forget you also have two more days to enter my blog give-away for your chance to win a pack of the latest Imaginisce Birthday Bash - you will find the details HERE.

Rolling along...

Friday, July 9, 2010

It is week 5 in the 'Embellish This' competition at Scrap 'n' Craft with T which means it is my week for setting the challenge. And what technique do I just love? Yep you guessed it... Paper Rolling!
So my five criteria points for the challenge have been set as:
  • Paper Rolling
  • Non traditional Shape Layout
  • Monochromatic Layout with a hint of one other
  • Predominant Stamping
  • Embellishment to be made using Clear Acetate or Transparency
Here is my sample using the gorgeous Bo Bunny 'Love Bandit' Collection and Core'dinations cardstock for a lots and lots of quilling.

I have again used the seriously funky edge-rolling technique which creates the perfect border for the circular layout.
I also used a large flourish stamp with pink ink that didn't really stand out the way I'd hoped so I decided to outline the stamped image using a brown gel pen which really helped with the definition. Also decided to ink the fabric thickers and outline them with the same brown gel pen. Another favourite technique of mine... paper piercing, just can't seem to do a layout with poking atleast one whole through the paper.
I made the embellishment using paper rolls to form the heart shape and mounted them onto clear acetate wings with paint pen outlines. This is the hardest of the rolling techniques but definitely well worth the effort... If you would like to tackle this technique you can find my tutorial HERE.

Another month, another sketch challenge...

Thursday, July 1, 2010
