Cristal Clear...

Wednesday, March 23, 2011

Hello and welcome to the final day of the Imaginisce i-rock intensive and one last blog hop to show you a glimpse of the fun things you can do with the i-rock tool on acetate or transparencies.

Birthday cards don't have to be traditional and if you have a friend who is a bit quirky then they will love recieving something a little different in the way of a completely see-through or should I say 'Cristal Clear' card.
And I guess you are wondering how to write on such a card... it's easy, a paint pen does the trick and looks really funky.

So far this week we've shown you how to user your i-rock on fabric and paper so now I will show you how I used the i-rock on acetate. I like to use the stiff acetate which I buy in a pack of 100 from an office supply store that sells it for book binding clear covers. I find it is the perfect weight for cards as it holds it shape and also for flourishes so that they don't droop when attache to your projects.
First process I placed my acetate sheet over the top of the i-rock flourish template and using a paint pen I drew dots where I wanted to place the gems. I didn't place the gems directly onto the acetate as they have a tendancy to pop off if you don't prepare the surface first. However, the metallic glamrocks are fine and adhere directly onto the acetate without any preparation at all.

Because I was using the metallic glamrocks I could place them directly onto the acetate without sanding. However, in the next blog you visit from Cristal (Pinky) you will see a video of how she prepares her acetate using the Imaginisce d-stress tool.

Once I had my metallic glamrocks in place and pre-heated my i-rock for approximately 15 seconds, I began attaching my gems. Now when using the metallic glamrocks you really only need to have the i-rock tip on them for no longer than one second... it's that quick! Because the metal shells are so thin the heat transfers extremely fast and you will see the glue melt instantly. However, other types of thicker gems and cristals can take up to 15 seconds when using the largest sizes.

Once the gems were attached I then carefully cut around the flourish shape before attaching to the card.

Here's another fun card I created using acetate, my Berrylicious smiley lemon snag-em stamp and pink fusion metallic glamrocks.

Well I hope you've enjoyed the i-rock intensive week and have learnt a few more ways to use your i-rock. However, you still have one last stop at
Pinky's blog
and I'm sure you'll be impressed with her video tutorial on how to prepare your surface for adhering your gems to acetate and then you can make your own funky Cristal Clear projects.

Give-Away: i-rock Bundle of Goodies
Don't forget today is your last chance to win one of the i-rock packages on offer this week and all you have to do is leave a comment on each of today's three participating design team members (including mine) and then one final comment on the Imaginisce blog. It's that easy! Goodluck and thanks for stopping by!
