Scrapbooking & Beyond...

Thursday, February 14, 2013

I have been very fortunate in having been asked back by Scrapbooking and Beyond Magazine for another year of creating with the amazingly talented Liz Qualman, Robbie Herring and Corrie Jones. And this year's series is all about mixing things up... in a nut shell, it means that we have to use different media on our layouts yet remain true to our style.

Easier said than done... I have never been one for using mists, metal, texture paste etc etc so I was in for a challenge and a major clean up of my desk and hands once I'd finished. Not to mention the amount of paper I went through just to 'get it right'. Don't get me wrong, I have always envied crafters who create beautiful shabby/artistic style pages as they make it look so darn easy. Believe me, I didn't find it easy at all!

We were totally spoiled with a beautiful Maya Road collection of products to use and I couldn't go passed this adorable little mini heart tin which reminded me of a tiny quiche dish. I decided to place a cropped version of the photo of my daughter inside the heart and then lay it over a full version of the photo.

Products Used:
Maya Road: Mists in Avacado Metallic, Blue Slushie, Dragon Fruit and Sunflower Yellow; Natural Wood Buttons; Twine Cording in Saffron Yellow; Kraft Die-Cut Butterflies; Vintage Linen Burlap Roses; Heart Bottle in Large; Bingo Card Rub-ons.
American Crafts: Studio Calico HeyDay Collection Patterned Paper in Crush and Dew; Classic Collection Vol 2 Patterned paper in Basic Grid and Tiny Chevron; Rub-ons in Dear Lizzy Mini Pounce Phrases.
Doodlebug Design: Shin-Dig Cardstock Stickers in Lily White; Teensy Type Cardstock Stickers in Bumblebee
Other: Gesso, Double sided adhesive, Ssissors, rule, pencil, stapler and staples

And here's how my layout was presented in the publication.
