Luck of the Irish...

St Patrick's Day is a day I once loved because it meant spending the day with my darling dad (Patrick) for his birthday and we always had such a joyous time. However, we lost him a little over 10 years ago and this  day has felt quite empty ever since. So as each year passes it gets a little easier to be without him, but today always brings back those raw emotions which are a good thing, I guess, because it reminds me how much I loved him and how much I miss having him in my life. My one regret is that he never got to meet my two beautiful boys.

For Dad...

Stop all the clocks, cut off the telephone,
Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone,
Silence the pianos and with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin, let the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky the message He Is Dead,
Put crepe bows round the white necks of the public doves,
Let the traffic policemen wear black cotton gloves.

He was my North, my South, my East and West,
My working week and my Sunday rest,
My noon, my midnight, my talk, my song;
I thought that love would last for ever: I was wrong.

The stars are not wanted now: put out every one;
Pack up the moon and dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can ever come to any good.

  1. Great St Pat's card...& I know where you're coming from. My Dad died at 46 - the year before I had my first child & I really, really regret he didn't 'meet' my boys. I think he would've adored being a grandparent - but he never had that opportunity. I'm just glad I had him when I was married, cos he was sooo proud to walk me down the aisle & give me away...at least I have that wonderful memory!!!
